I'm just a noob with a year experience but for what's it's worth I'd never leave being a company driver unless I had money saved up.
It's not worth the risk.. accident, death in family.. truck breakdown.. these things happen and you don't want to put yourself in a possible situation where you have no money and it happens to you.
I think that's how a lot of people get into trouble.
    Be patient and save...

I want to be an O/O and lease on somewhere one day, probably will join Schneider's choice because of the freedom of control and choice of what I do. It's not all about the money to me, but I don't want to be taken advantage of by being in screwed per mile pay vs % though nor have a company telling me where to do and what to do.
No wife or kids, so no need to be home. What I am going to do at home? Watch tv and do nothing? I can do that in a truck also but at least see different places and can do different things.
However as much as I want to do that I'm skipping it for a bit to go into LTL linehaul and rake in the cash first.

    mickimause Thanks this.

$5000 minimum..that way you can make a few payments or whatever IF needed.
When I went through orientation they had a special going if you leased on:
    $2000 from SFI
    $1400 from SNI
It all went in your maintenance account..which is fine.
I know some people say to pay out of your pocket for maintenance..but I don't.
After all..Money is just paper if it isn't working for you.

I say no i started with 5k or so saved and bills paid up a month ahead my first couple weeks have pretty much covered just fuel and and payments because i have been struggling with weekends and not properly booking loads out. If i didnt have a reserve fund i'd have been in trouble.

Didn't you buy a new truck?
If so it should be covered under warranty..TennMan had the same problem.

Yep..call your lease rep and tell them what's going on.
I haven't had any trouble with my alignment thankfully.

The maintenance schedule shows new trucks to be Checked for alignment at 15k miles. Wouldn't be considered maintenance not under warranty?
