never driven an auto truck... just saying ts newish tech so the old farts will be scared of it. Do you really think the same thing did not happen when things like the 8 speed came out when everything was still a 13 or 18 speed?

More like 6 now I just never update this profile. I was fluent at a manual after about 3 weeks. The auto took about 3 months to learn how to properly control it.
Stick shift isn't brain surgery or deep space exploration.

Not necessarily. I mean, knowing how to drive a manual hasn't prevented a whole lotta truck drivers from laying over, ending up in the ditch, rear ending someone, jackknifing, etc. Whole lot more to driving a truck than shifting, especially when you get into running on unimproved roads, heavy loads, specialized trailers, etc. Which is why I've been saying since I started posting on the thread that how someone's truck is shifted will always take a distant second to their backing skills, ability to maintain lane integrity, personal judgment, etc.

Couple weeks back, I had to do a service on one of our regional trucks... guy runs Chicago regional, but ends up in Denver on occasion. And we adjusted his clutch to where it was supposed to be... had practically no free play in it... had it adjusted just right, then he comes in and tells us he can't run the truck like that in Chicago traffic.. afraid he'll end up rear ending someone.. pretty much just came out and told us he can't run a properly adjusted clutch. I'd have gotten in trouble if I'd told him to learn how to ####### drive.. and someone gave me some song and dance serenade about a statement I made earlier that autos were a sign of things to come, claiming I must be a proponent of EOBRs or some other such ########, as well... no... if you're so diehard about sticking to manuals and opposed to seeing autos become the norm, your comments are better directed at those drivers like the one I described above. I don't push for autos in any way, shape, or form... I simply accept that some might prefer them... drivers like that do far more to push for them than I ever have, or ever would, if I wanted to.

Interesting cause most the truckers I've rode with can't shift worth a ####. Most try to float gears and they can't do that either no less dc. Personally I could care less about trucks at this point in my career.
