It is almost as though the truck driver is thought of more as a criminal than as a working man trying to earn an honest living.

And how would you do that ?
I have one driver who does 444 miles in 7 to 8 hours and another one who needs for the same trip 10 to 11 hours .

    1. Driver should be on time.

    2. Shipper/Receiver should load or unload in a timely manor.

This is how it should work.

I realize that problems do come into play. But, if both the trucking company and the Shipper/receiver do what is expected of them things would go much smoother.

Well there lies another issue as receiver type jobs used to pay a living wage but now just another transitional type mickey d job where back in the day if it took you longer than 30 minutes to unload a skid load then your next trailer wouldn't require a motor to offload.

    Absolutely and well said!

I admire you guys more than most anyone out there. Trucking is far from being a "piece of cake" and without you folks this country would stop functioning immediately... period. Very few people will admit that... but all of us here know it's true.

There is no "glamour" in being a shipping/receiving clerk... but that's where life has led me the past 30 years. It's a "lifestyle" for me just as much as driving is a "lifestyle" for you folks.

All I ask is respect my "time" and I will respect your "time". Be on time for appointments... pick up the phone keeping me informed... and be halfway cordial when you arrive.

I don't know how many times drivers will set an 8am unload appointment and arrive at 4pm the day before and act like they're doing me such a "good deed" arriving early... then literally cuss me out after learning they're sitting till their original morning appointment. You're really not helping me by arriving early since I'm usually a "one man" operation and dedicate the last hour of my day to getting our UPS packages out. Plus the LAST thing the owner wants to do is stay after 5pm to allow me to unload a truck.

I admire the "drive" in arriving early... but you're really hurting me more than helping me.

I try to accommodate the best I can... but I'm also operating within restrictions out of my control too.

ampm wayne, jbatmick and rexmanno Thank this.

yes, so as they did in the want ads, they can reduce trucking from a specialized skill to general employment.
