Been on the road for 7 days now. I think I am going crazy.

Hometime is great. Especially if you are raising a family, but being OTR, even if you are getting regular hometime(i.e. every week or two) you gotta realize at some point that being home too long or too often=less miles. If the wheels aint turnin...I get regular hometime but I went to trucking to support my family financially so I wont allow myself to stay home too much.

I raised 5 boys no girls. It was a must for me to be home to raised my family. I would do a overnight trip here there to do a changed, But OTR was never for me. Now the boys are all grown and educated and still have no intetions doing the OTR. I feel for the OP, I would look for a changed. Opportunities are available, just need to search a lil harder.

I assume that is the main goal for newbies with young families. Get some OTR, keep your nose clean, then look for a home everyday driving job. I know thats what I want, but i gotta pay my dues first...

i cant stay on the road long enough! although that is in part due to the Interstateing rules i must return to canada and since im back i usualy have to take a load from a home base regular customer. 14 days is usualy it. time to time i get in a position to pick up something that takes me to hell (FL) and back. i feel for some of the guys out at the mega carriers when i was doing a switch with Transport America one of their O/O told me hes out for 2 months at a time home for 2-3 days and took home to his family 20k. here at that point i was home every week and doubled his income.

I complained if I stayed out 2 nights in a row, but I just did a Chicago-Wis.-UP thing. My company knew on the 3rd day after being out 2 nights, they wouldn't hear from me, and sometimes I'd bobtail home (Madison) from Chicago. The bad part about that, was I had to bobtail back to Chicago to start over again. Sometimes, it was worth it!

Companies should start offering two full days home for five days out.

But the HOS bull puckey screws that all up.
Did they pull 34 hours out of the air or some dark orifice?
Why not 48 hours like regular people get for a weekend?
Make it a 48 reset and 12 hours driving time a day and I'll give it another look.
    As it stands now?
    Naw, suckers...

The 48 hrs reset would suck for most drivers that never get home. They would have to do it on the road...I did a 34 at a TS once....I hated every minute if it myself. I'm glad my company gets me home for resets. :)

Update! I no sooner posted this thread and the qualcom gave me a load. DH around 250 from Wichita Falls Tx to Longview Tx. Hook onto a 1300 miler that weighs a whopping 4000lbs! Went through DFW twice today. ( tried to hold breath to not catch ebola...). Ran it back to Wichita with 1 minute left on the eek log. Now on 10. Home in a couple days! Sometimes trucking is just plain great...
