GOSH! You should see what I see while photographing trains. Fedex, Watkins Shepard, Werner, ABF, u name it trucking and it may be on a trailertrain nowdays. I love the Triple Crown 100 trailer trains hooked like elephants crossing PA. I can't wait for winter on I 81 and I 40 this year.

Nothing that means anything is ever put on a train without some serious backup plans in place. Because when the the railroad screws up it is both big and costly. They make all the same screw ups as bottom feeder trucking companies only it is multiplied by 100 or more. They lose trains like CRST loses trailers and we only here about the ones that spill hazmat in Johnies bath water. Most of those company trailers on the rail are M/T.

What I find interesting is the pro union guys at Con-way preaching it will end sub-service. I fully understand it's a certain percentage allowed under contract but we wouldn't see that much less as an entire company. That would fry my arse seeing my companies set being pulled much more than loading a van.

I have witnessed shiny wheels(sub contractors) pulling loads at Union lines for all my 30 years in trucking. It usually occurred at the end of the month and especially at the end of the 3rd quarter which is the end of most corporations fiscal year.
But never when available drivers were sitting at home and rested, such as is done at Conway.
