Get your money. Start by calling the State Labor Board, then a call to the state and federal attorney generals office. Dont let these scumbags screw you out of your pay. Just be sure you have wages coming so you dont make a fool out of yourself...I mean make sure you didnt get pay advances or something that they are legally withholding from your check.

I worked for Carolina Cargo...see posts above. And, yes, they pay .20cpm but it's split between drivers. What's worse is, they only pay from zip code to zip code, not actual miles driven. You really get screwed on that because their policy was to go straight to the closest Cat scale to get weighed before rolling. Sometimes the "closest" was 35 miles away...in the opposite direction that you needed to go! That's 70 miles without ANY pay at all. The low pay also encouraged many drivers to speed. That resulted in the company having a CSA score of 99. I don't know how they were not put out of service with a 99. I know they had FMCSA reps pay them visits often for audits. I knew of one driver who flipped a rig going too fast on a ramp. Not only did he remain employed, CC took pieces of old trucks in their boneyard to rebuild that truck. A week later it was back on the road. Many trucks had such horrible seals around the rig doors that they rattled and the heater could barely keep it warm in the cab. The curtains between the sleeper and cab were usually falling down. It made it very difficult to get sleep during daylight hours. I could go on with many more stories but I'll spare you guys. It was really bad.

That's pathetic. I wonder how those folks sleep at night. They probably think the employees just common trash and it's ok to steal from them. Besides were late for a social event. Leave a message and maybe I'll call ya back.

Indeed! But, they know they have the upper hand because the drivers they get will never be hired elsewhere. Unfortunately the CC drivers tend to believe that if they get a year or two experience they can go play with the big dogs and make big money. Probably not. Western Express is one company who is very liberal in who they hire. They have a standing order from the CEO, DO NOT hire anyone from Carolina Cargo...ever! That's how bad CC's reputation has gotten. I was shown at an inspection station in Oregon where CC's CSA score was a 99. For those who don't know its ranked from 0 to 100 and the higher the score the worse the compan's safety record is. That's why Western, and a few others, will not hire from that company. I don't know how they can be that high and not be taken out of service indefinitely. Also, why would the owner of that company not make some major changes to reduce that score? I fell something is very amiss in that issue. He's one horrific accident away from being shut down. With the pay being so low that's only encouraging the drivers to speed. He has designed his company to fail. The reason why he can't get new trucks is because of that score. His insurance liability is so high that he can't afford to purchase new trucks in bulk because it would mean getting full coverage on them until the loans are paid in full. He just keeps gluing the old ones back together. He has a boneyard in his lot and I wondered why he didn't get rid of them. He can't, they are spare parts for his current fleet. All I can say to that is...####!

The reality is, this is the scumbag society we live in. I have a felony record, I've been lucky to not have to work for scumbag companies like this since my conviction. This is why the one piece of advice given often on here is to search out Mom and Pop companies rather than large companies to work for. You're more likely to have someone willing to give you a second chance, as long as you're willing to work your butt off to prove to them that they were right to do it.

You don't think I've looked into that? The smaller companies want more experience because they can't afford high insurance rates that accompany drivers with little to no experience. They may not do background checks but they do want verifiable experience...1-5 years usually.

I never got pay advances. I think they are dumb and if you aren't very careful it will put you in a bad cycle. It's not that easy to go through all that you must to get the money. First, I'm in a northern state which means very possibly having to travel to SC multiple times for Dept. of Labor mediation and/or civil court hearings. It isn't worth it in the long run.

Well just about any Trucking company in Chicago will hire you if your warm to the touch. You can make about .38 a mile after they get done screwing you.
Just be carful and watch your CSA, they will all push you.

Grand Rapids MI is another place to look. they are really hurting for drivers right now.

You have to understand Nobody in this industry is going to give a crap about you. So protect yourself, Be the best you can be, and run legal.
at the end of the day all the miles in the world isn't worth losing your licenses over.
