I've heard a good bit about TTR from the trainers at SNI over the past 2 weeks. I decided to join tonight between realizing that this isn't a job you really ever do "solo." You might be the only one driving, but it seems like most everyone is willing to put in a good 2 cents to help out.
For those of you who don't want to read this whole post, just scroll to the bottom.
Bit of background:
Until about 3 weeks ago I worked with Kroger as a Lead Pharmacy Tech (In short, I was a manager without the title or the perks, but all the responsibilities.) for about 7 years, I realized that what I did wasn't appreciated and other companies were hiring for better pay. Between being fed-up with pharmacy, my ex-SNI uncle telling me about driving/SNI, and a very supportive fiancee I decided to take the plunge into trucking.
I started school at Atlanta Truck Driving School in May, but I had to hold my full-time job in the pharmacy to make sure I could keep going. So it took me some time to get finished and get to the test. I did get my license, with relative ease, but I'd advise anyone going through school now to make sure that your school teaches you 45 degree backing; I don't know about other companies, but I know SNI is big on it. (The Ga DDS/DMV requires the 90 degree to be taught and used from what I understand. But if you have the time, try to learn the 45 too. Leave it to the government to want us to test on the more hazardous maneuver.)
4 weeks ago I applied for Schneider, and to my surprise I heard back from them within two days. (On an account that I later found out they preferred experienced drivers.) I'd rather not give too many details, but I did land a dedicated account.
Last week, I went out with my TE (I've heard some horror stories, but we were told to report them when we got back if anything was amiss.) who was pretty cool. For those of you who are SNI drivers, you may know that means this is my 3rd week of orientation. I test out Wednesday & Thursday!
Eventually, I intend to work in the oil-sands in Alberta. (My fiancee is Canadian, and we love the countryside. So for us, it seems logical.) For now though, I'm getting my feet wet and will eventually begin a family of my own. But, as it stands I'm a US citizen, so I've a ways to go.
Hobbies:
There's not much I don't dabble in, but it's all dabbling. I'm somewhat ADD (It seems to run in my family?) so, I don't stick with one hobby for too long.
General questions:
So far, it doesn't seem like much can't be found on this forum! I'm impressed! But, if anyone has any kind of advice or hints they'd like to offer, your 2 cents will be more than I had previously. So don't hesitate if you want to share. (I've come across my fair share of truckers who have offered "marital advice" of all sorts...and some of them are more salty and open than others.)
TL;DR: (Too long, didn't read.)
I'm a new Schneider driver who is new to everything and is coming from a job with a glass-ceiling & feeling more like an unappreciated number with equally unappreciative pay. So I'm really looking forward to a chance in scenery. I've got no questions right now, but if anyone wants to offer up any words of wisdom (Preferably salty/explicit marital advise should be kept to a minimum, I've heard plenty from old codgers at TS.) about this job, I'm good to hear it.
It's good to be someplace where I'm pretty sure everyone is both helpful and perhaps a little nutty! ...life is too short to not be nutty. (And so far, I mean both SNI and TTR.)

Vilheim welcome ..this site has been an invaluable resource for info ... I don't have anything to add as I am as green as they come to this industry but I am slated to go to the tanker side of the pumpkin patch Oct 13 so maybe I'll run into you (maybe that's a bad choice of words lol). Meet you, I mean.

Wish you all the best to you and your fiancee. Looks like the industry is taking a toll on my personal life already and I haven't even pulled my first load. Met a woman while I was in truck school - a former driver who had been in a relationship with another driver - both of which she was no longer involved in, and she is very reluctant to go down that road again - having been that and done there - with me. So ... best wishes to you and yours and safe journeys. -
I have been with SNI for 2 months now. I have found out that other SNI drivers are more than willing to help you out on the road or at any OC. They will answer any questions you have. Take your time with whatever tasks you are doing. Always check and look in your mirrors.
As as far as the family side, call home often. Skype/FaceTime daily if possible.

We're a long-distance working to move soon couple at the moment... So we don't like being apart, but we're used to it. (All-on for 5 years, I know some couples are on again and then off again.)
And yes! No running into me Briarhopper! SNI doesn't like that!
This is week 3 for me, I know I already said that, but I'm posting here as a quick break from homework on trip-planning. ...the paperwork portion (which I know we don't really keep track of like we would paper logs, so I don't think we do those once we're on our own.) is killing me, I can do the trip-planning in my head (Minus the graphing) and give a good eta/nat but the paperwork just makes the whole process too elaborate.
