The ONLY H2S course to take, which is universally accepted in the 'patch is H2S Alive.

Phew...finally completed all 403 pages of commentary. Some funny and some pointless, but the vast majority very helpful. Like a few others over the past couple weeks, I am new to the forum and just completed my AZ training. Already have my firstaid/cpr/aed, WHMIS and TDG certificates. I'm a second career person coming from a corporate environment and looking for a significant change. I am definitely making this change with my eyes wide open and no blinders on.

I am definitely looking at relocating myself out west with the potential for also bringing my family to Alberta once I am settled. I figure within the year. I am interested in relocation and not rotation or fly in/out. I've contacted a recruiter through the college where I took my AZ and have also been doing a lot of research online.

My current job seeking plan is to give it to the end of October and then catch a flight out to Grande Prairie (my target area) to visit various companies with my resume in effort to gain interviews and job offers. I also plan on scheduling my H2S and GODI certifications while I'm there. I figure on staying a week to ten days before coming home.

Question is...is this still a valid approach? I figure I will need to rent a vehicle while out there. Should I call ahead to the various companies and arrange a meeting in advance or just show up cold?

Aside from my resume, positive attitude and strong work ethic, is there anything I should bring with me?

Any and all advice is valuable.

Well, it's probably not a bad plan. A vehicle would be good, as would trying to make contacts before you come. I'd prepare for the possibility of getting a job and just staying here, not going home in a week or ten days.

Bring hi visibility clothing, gloves, some warm clothes, safety boots, hard hat and safety glasses. May as well come prepared to get a job.

    Caluja Thanks this.

TDG is "Carrier Specific". In other words, whomever hires you issues you the TDG Card.

tractor spike kids, not trailer spike, so that you can control the drive axle brakes independent of any other axle brakes, for skilled driver, probably not approved of by the current ,"I don't know your job, but my book says your doing it wrong" "safety" people.

The ONLY reason to have a tractor spike is on some type of of winch tractor or bed truck, to keep tension on the line while winching into the load. I cannot think of a single situation where using it while driving would be of any benefit

My understanding...trailer spike is used for 1) brake check during PTI and 2) brake check as you pull out of the yard. Maybe a 3rd if you want to do a Tokyo drift around a corner...

Trailer spike is not tractor spike. Both are hand controls. One is for the drives one is for the trailer

yeah that really makes sense, what difference is having the drives separate, on a suck??? the tractor spike is really helpful backing down any kind of slope where you don't want the steers to lock, or getting the steers to take a set on a corner, like I said for experienced drivers.
