Last night, going northbound on i95 in SC, the weigh station was pulling everyone in
long line of trucks ahead with barney standing outside
i get up to mr DOT, he looks thru my log book and tells me i am good to go
i, in turn, ask him for a positive inspection report
he then says, he will give me a level one and put me out of service
so i ask, if i had had a problem with my logs, would you have cited me? so why no positive?
he says, he doesnt have time to write up a positive, but would make time for a citation
so in summary, all of these drivers go thru with no problems on paper logs, without any positive records
but make an honest mistake and they will quickly mark a negative on your record
this is not the first time this exact conversation has happened, its almost a script
so all of these nationwide stats are skewed
HOS violations are biased against drivers

There just spot checking logs not doing level 1. If u want a poztive he would have to run cdl n truck n trl registration.
-
They do the same thing up here in Ontario ... and what do you know, every truck they inspect is a danger to the motoring public, what a coincidence...
-
you completely missed the point
if he had found something, he would have cited me
so he shouldnt bother unless it works both ways, its unfair to the drivers to only record the negativesosokusmc Thanks this. -
Have'nt seen you on here in a while, nice to see you back.

I do think it depends on the state ,how drivers look and present themselves what talking to a DOT and how many HOS violations was already given that day whether or not certain drivers get violations.I've had my logs checked many times and never a violation and have had inspections. Some officers found things wrong but never cited me and then some have.

You can get a positive if they feel like entering all the required data and you feel like rolling the dice and want to spend 15 minutes inside. In dealing with CMV cops, I'd much rather no interaction with them at all then risk an interaction that may or may not go as desired. If they said I was "good to go", that would have been good news to me.
No record at all is as good as a record with mostly positive events and eventually a negative. Take the "roll on" and be happy with it. Dealing with CMV police is like being in prison, best thing you can do is maintain a low profile and avoid dealing with anybody if at all possible.Raiderfanatic, barnmonkey, ShortBusKid and 2 others Thank this. -
So... maybe it's you. You are kinda whiny.
All you want is for a DOT officer to dedicate time to giving you a meaningless gold star while other driver wait.
Non sequitur, of the gross and obvious variety. Anecdotal evidence is not compelling, and being from a crybaby doesn't lend it any credibility.A21CAV Thanks this. -
I can see where he's got an issue with it. Stopping CMV's and pre screening for violations isn't the coolest thing on earth. However it's be coming fairly common place. Sobriety check points, IMS check points, how long before seat belt check points, show your document check points.
That being said, better get used to it. http://fleetowner.com/regulations/fmcsa-recruit-fleets-wireless-inspection-testing -
