Need some advice, guidance. I"m from Ontario but plan on coming to AB next week, either Fort Mac or Grand Praire. I am 56 yrs, good shape with class 1 license. This is a new career for me as I was in management in the hospitality industry and as such, I do not have any labour or actual driving experience yet, as I just got my license. I do have first aid and will have H2SAlive before I get there. Just wanted to know how good my chances are of getting a job and any advice on how best to approach a company or which companies. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd like to know how many of the experienced drivers familiar with the area roads think it's reasonable for a new driver to come to the north and learn how to drive this time of year.

    Depends on many things.

How well your driver training was. Common sense. Adaptability. If you get good training/mentoring.

How confident you are. If you listen, ask questions, are cautious by nature, or just yeehaw.

Hard to say. Some make it from day 1, some never will.

My first job was learning this time a year in an area with multiple 7-10% grade passes, and I did alright. I had a decent trainer and got to watch him in an early storm, but was glad to have a few weeks on my own to build confidence before the snow flew again. Having to deal with snow in a new area in your first week would be tough.
