And there in lies the reason which fuel cost are maintained artificially high to discourage dead heading. We used to think nothing of dead heading from Chicago back to Atlanta.

I forgot all about this one from TQL.

Picked up steel heading to Washington State. Got to the delivery address and there was 7 trucks total. They wanted us all to be there at the same time. Then they told us to unhook our trailers and they would be pulled into Canada, unloaded and brought back the next day. None of this was told to us. Needless to say we all told TQL to go pound sand. TQL was calling all of us telling we HAD to do it. We all refused. We were all together on this. They said they had to make arraignments to get trucks with trailers in there and equipment to unload us. We talked to the driver of the first day cab that showed up to haul a trailer over. We got the info on the customer and called the company. They were furious at TQL for this. TQL was also being paid $500 per truck because we would have to sit for a day. TQL was going to make us sit and keep the money. We all got new rate agreements with $600 more. They unloaded all the trucks that same day where we sat. These loads came from Steel Dynamics. A huge producer of steel. They were also involved in reaming out TQL along with the customer.

Fuel costs are high due to global demand. Ever heard of China? It has zero to do with truckers deadheading.

What is going on with the corrent market $/mile rates. They are ridiculously low ! I dispatch one truck and I was lucky to always find around the $2 per mile and sometimes $3. But now it's back to &1.50. Will this be over soon? The truck has been sitting for almost 2 weeks!
