Tonu is normally 250. And wait time is from 35 to 45 an hour. Most brokers will only pay 25 though. With the first 2 to 3 hrs free. Also dont let the broker pay up front for a lumper. Some like ch robinson will charge a heavty T-Ck fee.

Id have a fit if they all offered me 35-45 an hr, I dont think thats fair to the O/O or driver.
On a few ocassions I have found going back and forth on the rate and I think Ive been paid 45 once or twice , Im just trying to figure a way to address it before it happens to avoid the back and forth. -
The way to address it is to address it in the contract. Master contract or addendum (rate confirmation).

IMO, best way to address it is to build it into your rate and not mention it. Build in 2, 3 or 4 hours load time in your rate and then again on the delivery. This way when you're detained for two hours you aren't all uppity with the broker when you call him to let him know. By the time you are working on your third hour most brokers will bring up the subject anyway and I usually have no trouble getting a new rate agreement. They are happy because they think they got you for two free hours. Quibbling over detention before it happens is a waste of time and only makes bad blood in what may have been an otherwise good relationship IMO.
However, if they ask me to lower my rate I may answer by telling them I have priced 2 hrs load and unload in the rate. I can lower the rate if they want to come to a detention agreement.double yellow, Lady K and 281ric Thank this. -

I pay detention and TONU whenever I have the ability -which is almost always. Even if I'm unable to get detention from the Shipper for my driver I will take it out of my margin and pay them what they deserve. First two hours are free and anything after that is $50 an hour, every time. May take a day or two to get approval and payment sent but my drivers get paid for the work they put in, whether thats waiting to get loaded or otherwise. Brokers who claim they can't pay detention are full of crap, its common practice for shippers to offer detention to all carrier who wait longer than a specified amount of time, and TONU should be paid if they cancel a load less than 24 hrs before pickup , sometimes even before then depending on the circumstance.

Detention is paid at $50 per hour after two hours with all of our customers. We build it into the contract and pay it immediately once in and out times have been signed off and sent over so we don't have to wait for approval. All of our TONU fees are $150 from the customer and we pay all $150 to the truck.
