I often have minor questions that aren't really worthy of their own thread, so I never end up asking them. So I'm going to use this thread for miscellaneous questions. Others can use it as well.
Truck parking
My companies yard is in Houston, I live in Baytown and I'm practically on a dedicated account in Baytown. My company obviously won't allow me to leave it unattended overnight at a truck stop.
But I'm commuting an extra 2 hours a day. How can I find truck parking in Baytown so I can present this as an option to my company?

I have enough property to park my rig at home. But I live in Fla and my property is soft and wouldnt take much to rut it up and eventually get stuck.
Till I get the back area paved over I park at a lot. I pay $50 for the week when ever I get home,.. usually between 4 - 6 weeks out.
I found it by driving around and when I saw a place that would accommodate my truck and trailer I would ask if I could park there and have 24 hr access to my truck. Took me a few days to finally find a place. Paved lot with a gate. Gate isnt locked. He has 6 or 7 other truckers who park there as well. The main business is a paving company, but they have a large lot and we all park off in the back.
So if you dont mind paying for parking,.. its just a matter of knocking on some doors.
Free parking,.. I guess you'll have to ask around.

Thats a good idea, i used to park at a appliance outlet store with a big lot, paid 100 bucks a month but it was every night as i was local. Ask around at small one off business's with big lots, never know

Find a RV storage place. They are usually fenced and have some type of security. Pay your monthly rent and there ya go

I thought about asking one of the local hotels that caters to trucks where I illegally parked one night but they are pretty packed most nights, so they likely wouldn't have the space.
I will start keeping an eye out for local businesses but the problem is my company can be finicky so I think the RV storage idea is my best bet. -
your dedicated acct loads out of Baytown? Why not asking them if you can park there?

Trailer Plates
Ballpark, what do they cost? For a new trailer, do I only need a DOT inspection? Is this something I could get the dealer to cover? -
Trailer plates have probably as many costs as there are states.
Most trailer dealers will sell the trailer with a DOT inspection done, and yes, new trucks and trailers must have a DOT inspection. -
Are there any good videos that teach how to properly use blocking, bracing, dunnage for load securement?
