On line haul you work the dock in most cases. On the longer turns you don't sometimes but 98% of the time you do. OT is after 8 continuous hours on the clock so typically it does not come into play since you only have 14 hours to do your thing. Your on the clock at the yard when you hook, fuel etc. When you dispatch you get off the clock and go mileage to your destination, upon arrival you immediately go back on the clock till your done there, then back on mileage home, then back to the clock while you put your set away, fuel, etc. There is never a time you are not being paid while at work, once you start your day (with exception to your mandatory 1/2 DOT break), most guys work that into the ride so it doesn't get into the clock money.

The P/D guys get paid OT after 8 hrs every day, even if you miss a day, you still don't loose the OT earned the prior day or the next day worked. It's OT everyday after 8 hours.

I worked about 23 years in LTL and always dreamed of having that daytime M-F driving gig and when it finally happened,my wife and I would walk out the front door together at 0700 and when I got home everyone was in the bed.LOL Ran city for USFH and we went out about 100 miles.Started the day on the rock and usually finished on the rock.I did miss a lot with 4 kids growing up yet it was not unrewarded. The LTL pay was real good.I would highly recommend USFH if for no other reason they shut down on weekends with everybody M-F.
