It forces you to stop. I'm not saying it makes you safer by any means but it does force you to at least stop driving for 10 hours every day. What you do on that time is entirely up to you.

As has been said many times: "It's not about safety. It's about control."

On a side note you guys really have to stop comparing today's trucking to trucking 20 years ago. ITS NOT 20 years ago! The roads are more complicated today, more congested, speeds are faster, the trucks are bigger, the cars are smaller, there's way more stuff period.
So stop comparing 2 decades ago to today. It just makes you look foolish.

You forgot to say that Big Brother is bigger and more obtrusive than ever. Nothing is ever enough for those people. They want a strangle-hold on your operations and won't be happy until they get it. They probably won't be happy even then.

And with more and more drivers that dont even KNOW the laws right now, the easier it will be to shove more intrusive and hindersome regs down all of our throats.

See..............right there you admitted it: it's NOT about safety; it's about control. A "management" tool......

Not so much about control but more people often don't know their own limits so having the clock and forcing them to stop makes them realize "wow I am tired I should probably stop".
I never realize how tired I really am until I actually stop driving and then my brain has a chance to relax and it's like "ok I'm shutting down now."
