    Hey all,

This is my first post in the forum, I recently got my CDL A and was lucky to get a job a week after my test, this Job is in constructions hauling grindings and asphalt, base rock, you name it for CalTrans contractors, now recently as the nature of the beast goes it is slowing down due to winter and I'm wondering that things could I do to keep my wallet from draining.

Last week I worked 25 hours(all due to temperatures, road conditions, accidents, and weekends) and this week my first day I hit 11 hours, but tonight the job was cancelled because of the holiday(drunk drivers)

Anyway, what I want to know is what opportunities are there that can have me back on the area the next day? Such as, today(since i work nights) I called in to check on the status at 11 am when I woke up, and I was told that the job was cancelled for tonight, so I have tonight that I could be working elsewhere (Maybe a 1 night run?) and be back for work the next day

    Any help can be appreciated!

Also, I have 6 years Heavy Equipment Construction in the USAF, that's why I got the job...hope that extra information helps!

Maybe intermodal/drayage company pulling containers. Problems could arise though with the union workers at the seaports; they're lazy and don't mind delaying you for hours while they whine and wail. Maybe some intermodal company has something already on their yard that needs delivered to a customer and not the port.

Some guys haul oil (me for one) . Some do propane or plow snow.

Good luck finding a nightly fill in run. Usually you finish the summer gig and then move to the winter one.......with a little down time between.

One of these years I'm going to sit at home hibernating and wait for spring.....ask some of the guys you work with. They'll know the local options.....

Never know with construction if you'll be working that day.You could file for unemployment. But if you just started with that company you may not get it but it's worth a try.

You know, some people do, a Day off equals a night of drinking to caltrans, so they shut down highway work

Or perhaps post in something remotely resembling the English language??!? If you want people to take the time to read your posts (and take you even a tiny bit seriously) maybe just have the courtesy to actually write/type like you advanced beyond the second grade....Just sayin'.
