So I am going to driving school in April, and now my son-in-law wants to start a career in driving as well. We could always hook up as a team at some point and it sounded like a great idea and all. Oh yeah, we popped the top on a few beers and went from bragging about our sportin' abilities to counting all the money we were going to make, to looking at beach front property. It was a grand ol' time, right up until he told me that hes had a recent speeding ticket in Nashville...
According to him its not anything to worry about as its been dismissed by traffic school. He paid for and passed the school and a forty dollar clerk fee, without ever going to court. The clerk, evidently, told him it was dismissed and that it would not show up on his MVR because the Metro area doesn't report these to the state. He also says that it's a common occurrence in a Metro area, that they like to keep the money collected to themselves and not dole out any?
In my opinion, its a lot to worry about, as I think that his MVR will still show the ticket or that he went to defensive driving school so no points would be awarded, but the black mark is still there. I dont think a ticket is that easily erased, basically it boils down to an admission of guilt.
Am I right or wrong? I will be footing the bill for him to attend and would hate to find out later that he cant get a decent job straight out the gate. I've never heard of a Metro area doing its own thing before. Can they do that or maybe it's different for non CDL holders to get out of a ticket? I've only got one speeding ticket in my entire life (The night Earnhardt rattled LaBonte's cage), so I'm kind of ignorant on the ways a fellow could go about getting out of one.
If it is right, it sounds to me like the city is cooking their own books.
I could use a little advice with this if someone else has heard of such...
Regards,
PD

I had a ticket about the same in Florida. Did traffic school and such. I made sure I told them when I went in to do my training and never heard anything about it. As long as you tell them there shouldn't be any problem, if you try to conceal it from them you might as well keep your bags packed because you wont be staying long. And yes it will show up on his mvr

I got a speeding ticket in Virginia a few years before I went for my CDL. I went to traffic school here in NC and mailed in the certificate. Ticket was dropped. It isnt on my NC driving record. YMMV.... have sonnie in law pull his driving record....

One ticket will not kill his chances for getting a driving job unless reckless driving was involved... Be honest with your prospective employer and it'll be fine.

Yeah, good idea. I found the place to pull the MVR and ran my own license number, was only seven bucks. Came back as 'contains no history', I'll wait until March of next year to run his, we'll see about the story then. I hope enough time will have gone by for it to appear on his record if it was going to.
I still can't find any concrete evidence that a metro area can/will do that. I guess they can if it's just a simple speeding ticket, I don't have a clue how fast he was going. I did call the clerk's office and they couldn't help me much without the ticket number. She did say that it would be dismissed if he had complied with the instructions, but she wouldn't commit to it being gone from prying eyes. I think this 'dismissed' will likely be spelled with an asterisk on his MVR and a note at the bottom.

Got stopped doing 124 in my Vette by a Nevada HP,,wrote me for 90 in a 70,,paid the $126 fine,,never showed on my record, got the speed reduced when I told the cop I wanted to get back to town and dump a very bad date I had in the car

Have him order a MVR report from the state and find out. One ticket really, I wouldn't worry to much about it anyway.
