I bought my truck from its original owner the company bought it new in 88 looked to be well maintained was not exactly what I wanted but will work for me. My preference would be to look for a person selling or a small company they seem to take better care of things not quite as budget and other people to answer to spending money on up keep

Bought my first one off ebay a 96 Volvo truck and 53' van for 7000 I know it was going to be expensive to get all right but it was DOT legal except breaks replaced them and ran it 6 months in that time replaced clutch, turbo and steer springs. Made enough off it to buy a second it much better shape.

I can only offer my advice o what i have been through. First don't fall for the Freightliner SelecTruck deal..... I have bpought my first 2 trucks through them.. Ok call me a glutton for punishment. My first truck was an 05 Century with a series 60 12.7L and a 10 speed. That had constant maintenance issues. the clutch went out at the 62 day mark... the bumper to bumper buyrers assurance ran out at 60 days. After 2 years in it I traded for an 07 Century with a series 60 14.0L and a 10 speed automatic. Have had the 07 3 yrs. have put nearly 30k in the 65k truck. Cant wait to pay it off and get a new truck. The worst thing is trade in is only 18k, still owe almost 28k. ANyway Follow the advice of others and really look over what you intend to buy. Use your head, buying a used truck can be a crap shoot. I am currently leaning toward a Pete 388 Glider with a C-12 and a 18 speed. Still doing my homework though.

My first truck was a used 2005 freightliner classic xl Detroit 14.0l and 13 SPD I had it for a year Ive had no major issues with it the only thing I was worried about the truck having 1m miles but I spent about 3 grand in engine issues mostly leaking oil but I got it from a
company called
Ryder and good prices to but now I have a freightliner Coronado which I think I paid If I remeber 59k and the inframe had just been rebuilt
after 650k miles and both trucks are aid for the classic xl is just in the yard -
think about a truck for 15k-21k if the truck has a million miles just rebuid the inframe and it wouldnt be brand new but youll be good and get some turbos and if no 10 virgin wheel buy them and battries
