I KNOW that there have been tons of threads from us newbs looking for the "right" company to start with. I am interested in the West Coast, Portland, OR. area.

I will have completed my school in 2 wks and have all of my endorsements.

I am looking for some pointers on where to start my "new" career. I would be willing to do either OTR or Local.

Thanks in advance for any advice

    Hiya...
I'm in the same situation.... Have you looked at May Trucking (Salem)? They take noobs and will do tuition reimbursement, if you've not been paid for school already.

Most everybody that's local wants a year experience minimum... Here are some local option though:
    Or Contract
    SYGMA
    Home Depot
    FedEx
    Ross Island Sand & Gravel
    Cascade Petroleum
    AIRGAS
    Central Garden Supply
    Beaverton Food
    Bekins NW
    Interstate Rock

If you're willing to go OTR here's a couple of suggestions for you to research:
    Arrow
    Covenant
    Central Refer
    Gordon
    KLLM
    Knight

All of which will work you out of Portland area.... US Express will IF you have a team...

I'm scheduled to complete training on July 17.

Apparently I'm taking the "slow boat to China" route...
    Good luck...

I would check with Watkins and Shepard in Missoula, MT as they have a terminal in Vancouver, WA. When you graduate from your CDL school if you went with W/S they put you through a 10 day training and then you are assigned your own truck and are ready to go. They cover the western states.

Also I think ABF hires graduates and works them on the docks before sending them out on the streets. The good/bad thing is there is tons of trucking companies in Portland/Vancouver and the surrounding areas so you can hit lots of places. Does you school have any leads?

    Hello to all,

Radman, thanks for starting this thread. Re: Kool Pak LLC, based in Portland ... all that I know about them is what I learned from their website. You may want to check them out. I am still at the very beginning of considering OTR as a career choice .... researching, learning and throwing darts at the dart board. I will keep an eye on this thread to see what additional info may develop from your origninal post.

Please come back with updates & GOOD LUCK on your search.

Thanks all for the GREAT info.

I have submitted apps to W/S and Gordon
Watkins pre-qualed me and sent me some paperwork to fill out
Gordon was a bit stand-offish. They said to contact them after I had 3-6 months exp as they were not hiring "new grads" from Washington State (??? !!!!) something about a lawsuit they have against them.
I wil check out the others and get some apps filled out asap.

I test next week for my WA CDL...... Wish me luck, I am a bit nervous about the pre-trip inspection. I think I would rather be testing in Oregon as they can use a list to go off of. We have to remember everything (approx 60 items for pre-trip). Driving part will be a piece of cake.
