Where does an N14 Celect get its tach signal from?
Before the tach would jump from normal to alittle under 500 rpms, now after a long run. It only moves between 0 and 500 and sometimes acts dead. Truck is a 1995 FLD 120

Don't now where it comes from, but on one the plug on the back of the tack was causing it to be erratic tie wrapped it to keep it where worked.
Catliner Thanks this. -
Thanks . It was the wire on the back. Much appreciated.

usually rpm data transered by j1708 datalink
but on old trucks tacho output from ecm was used and sometimes w signal from alternatorHeavyd Thanks this. -
that model may have a separate sensor for the tach in the engine bell housing, threaded in the housing. adjustable by threading in by hand until it touches the flywheel then back it out half to three-quarters of a turn....

yep, I saw this additional sensor in DAF XF with N14. But w-output is also used.
BTW, what truck? what year? -
The wiring diagram for an N14 shows the sensor and it going to #11 in the OEM connector, Every N14 I have worked on uses the sensor in the bell housing, I set them at 1/2 a turn.
