Am looking at buying a 05 Pete 379 with a cummins ISX 475 with 1.4 million Kms--am wondering about longevity of the cummins ISX engine? Think it might need a rebuild soon? Otherwise truck real clean and straight anybody have any info or suggestions. Waiting for answer back asto any recent work done on truck.

Generally, bottom end should be good for awhile yet. You would want to pull valve covers and inspect cam, lifters, etc... probably wearing if no work has been done.

It would be helpful to see recent oil samples. I have the same engine and people tell me as long as it's not using oil and samples are coming back clean main bearings and rings, etc.. probably fine.

It's a good idea to clean the intake and replace or clean sensors on this engine, EGR causes soot build up.

You need to ask for inframe tic. that has been done 2 times or more with that many mi.

he said 1.4 million km's. that's 870,000 miles. No reason a Cummins ISX would have an inframe done with under 1 million, many go to 1.5 million. Especially if they are not idled too much.

I see my mistake. km. not mi. If you can get oil sample an run on dino. to ck. blow by, just spending some cash will show the good or bad of eng.

We have EGR-only ISXs with 1.3million miles without a rebuild still running strong.

My 06 500 ISX just threw a piston out the side of the engine at 999,305.From all I've been told you start getting into the 900k you should be looking to rebuild.

1.2 M miles on mine. Oil samples look good. I never had it dynoed, but it pulls well, not using oil.
