But you have to realize that the l/o operator is making an investment on the truck, while me and you are just working as company drivers. We may make the same as a l/o "sometimes" but that doesn't matter. The only reason im going to a dealership in the next few weeks is because i do not want to get canned and they keep the truck and all of the money i put into it.

It's been stated On this thread that somewhere around 40% of Choice drivers fail. By that I assume that means they turn in their leased truck and revert to being a company driver or maybe join another company.
Why do they fail? Do they book low paying loads? Do they mismanage their HOS clock? Too much home time? Pay themselves too much? Illness, accident, truck trouble?
General statements like "they can't run a business" doesn't tell us much. That goes without saying, if they could run a business they wouldn't have failed. But what business function couldn't they perform well enough to succeed?
Please be as specific as possible. Inquiring minds want to know. -
its a lease not a company job, they don't fire lease guys. -
You can be fired for breaking a sni policy. And there policy are strict.
EggoTrucker Thanks this. -
Not being nasty but we can only assume cause we have no knowledge as to whytynodine Thanks this. -
#1 we were told is trying to go the extra mile and unplug the QC or log out of HOS pulling a loadmoosc, mattbnr and EggoTrucker Thank this. -
Schneider does have strict rules but honestly unless you we're running like a loose cannon and breaking every rule in the LITTLE GREEN DOT BOOK then you'll have no problem ... It's the COWBOYS that have the issues mostly ... Not all but mostly I've talked to a few cowboys who were forced by their job to be wild and they love the structure here ... Then on the flip of the coin you have the guys who want to run. Hard and beyond HOS those guys you'll never change no matter what
mattbnr Thanks this. -
Or if you prefer, what do you think you and the other successful Choice L/O's do that the unsuccessful don't do?
In your opinion, does the orientation and training give you all the tools needed to succeed or is there an element of trail and error involved when you go "live"? If so is that a factor in the failure rate?
Also, does SNI have advisors or mentors or other resources for the new Choice L/O to help them transition? (Beyond the initial orientation and training.) -
I wiould venture to guess the #1 reason Drivers fail is poor time management whether it be bad trip planning, too much hometime or bad pre planning loads. All is on the drivers shoulders now.# 2 would be poor money management they get a big settlement then take too much time off and go in the hole.
EggoTrucker, tynodine and Jar-Head Thank this. -
Orientation is just an Introduction and on boarding process it gives you the very basic understanding of how SNI policy is and shows you the program. If you can't manage time, loads, money and have no discipline then you will fail.
No orientation will give you those attributes that are required to succeed.
As for a mentor or help there's drivers on here who will help if you ask.
The tools are provided by SNI for you to succeed if you provide the determination, Drive, Discipline and willingness to work hard and learn as you go.
It's not easy but it is done daily.
