For used (and even new) devices, check out http://swappa.com/

You will be less likely to receive a used device that does not work and/or is in poor condition. Too many electronics sold used on Fleabay and Craigslist are often in poor shape, yet described as mint. swappa.com is a site that focuses only on new and lightly used electronics.

My son locked himself out of his Iphone, couldn't get back in, couldn't back it up. Lost all of his pictures from when he was climbing towers. He was NOT happy. Always back up to something. LOL

I'm assuming that you are going to buy these up front, no contract. If that's the case, the "best" is the Moto X. It's $500, and available for both AT&T and Verizon. (FYI, the iPhone will set you back twice that much.)

The clincher for the X is that it has always-on speech recognition, which means you can do most tasks without taking your eyes off the road.

The alternative is the Moto G; that sells for $180. It's a really good basic Android phone.

One thing about buying a used phone... *ALWAYS* have the seller meet you at the phone carrier's store, so you can verify that the phone is not encumbered. You don't want to give a guy a couple hundred bucks for a phone, only to find that the phone company won't activate it until the outstanding bill is paid.

What often happens is someone buys a new phone on contract, uses it a couple of months, then cancels. The ETF (early termination fee) is attached to the phone, and the phone won't be activated until it's paid. ETFs can be upwards of $500 on these phones.

Did he ever back up the phone to iTunes or iCloud? I agree with backing up, even if to something free like Dropbox, Google+, Sugarsync, etc where you get a large block of GB to use for free.

Another thing to consider is linking the phones themselves. You want them for your drivers, so it may also be the case that you'd want to check up on things through their phones. Now granted, I'm an iDevice user, but for managing multiple users and devices, nobody's got Apple beat. All three of my kids have iPhones (with different iCloud accounts), in addition to the iPads and MacBooks. I can use GPS to locate them, all of us can see the master family calendar, I get notifications if my kids put a new event on the calendar, I can pull data from their phones/iPads/computers from my computer and/or phone, and all sorts of other nifty features that makes managing a family with three active teenagers (who have activities all around a very large US city and often times get themselves there, hence my desire to be able to locate them) extremely easy. I imagine that Apple has business software that would get you the same features that would make managing your business a little easier on you.
