even in a quiet truck, while rolling down the highway, i do not hear sirens until the cop/ambulance is passing me

i guess a majority of the sound bounces off the back of the trailer and gets lost in the turbulence

Nope - the laws the AAA listing refers to apply to the driver of ANY vehicle within the respective states, commercial or personal.

Its stupid to cover both ears, your sharing the highways with others and when you cover your ears you turn into nothing but danger. If you feel you have to have a headset covering both ears them you should stop driving and get off the highways.

    Sorta off the originial question.

Some Steel Mills require drivers to use PPE ( Ear Protection ) while driving into the facility. I was given a verbal warning for not doing so.
Shouted " Does this include a spotter ? " no, response. Never did back into the facility with ear plugs. Just walking around using PPE.

While driving with ear protection( head phones ) takes away one of your senses, Kinda odd not to listen your surroundings.
