Halvor Lines has a good reputation.
Pride Transport has flatbed division; mostly West Coast freight.Arkansas Frost Thanks this. -
Whatever you do make sure you take your time and do your research. Don't fall for the "A guy on the internet told me that this was a good company". You don't want to make a mistake and have to job hop. You have military experience so you already have a leg up on the competition.
MJ1657 and Ford L8000 Thank this. -
Thanks, the reason I asked for flatbed companies that hire students is so I can find companies I haven't applied to yet. Then I can compare the companies and choose the best fit for me at that time.

What about Hunt Transportation in Omaha, NE? They are the flatbed, machinery affiliate of the Acklie Companies (Crete, Shaffer). I don't know if Blacksburg is in their hiring area, but Crete/Shaffer advertises their military-friendly program quite a bit.
They may not be heavy, but it appears you will get use to securing equipment and maybe even some Oversized (tractors sticking out past the edge of the trailer, etc).
Just a thought.Ford L8000 Thanks this. -
I'm thinking that since you have zero experience that it would be wise to go to one of these companies (TMC, Melton, Rohel) and learn how to secure loads and and tarp the correct way. Just learn and get your feet under you. You make good money and TMC so my opinion would be to go with them, even if only for a year, then go with another company if need be.

I was in the Navy so long they built a bridge and named it the Golden gate while I was out on a cruise.

There is no "best company for student"regardless of van, flatbed, or any other, just check the BAD COMPANY section, you will find just about every company out there with a " they screwed me" thread, best advise I can give, would be call as many as you can, ask as many questions as you can, pay, benefits, home time, things like these, and any other thing you can think of that might be important to you, apply to the ones that you think might be a good fit, good luckFord L8000 Thanks this.
