No, not at all. They laid me off and forget to tell me I was laid off. At least that's what it all has amounted to. They said to wait for a letter in the mail as to my status. I still haven't gotten a letter. Technically I still work for them. They claimed if I did not report in by a certain day they would report me as having abandoned my truck and my job. I said, "What? What truck?" I was getting ready to report in when I got a voicemail from them saying it was okay not to report in and to wait for a letter from them.
Gardner is a bullcrap company. I hope they try to mess with my DAC so I can sue them. Good riddance.

    I'm inclined to agree.

I've often pondered a switch to the management side, just to add a much-needed driver's perspective to a roomful of folks who have never seen the inside of a truck before and can barely handle their own job, yet they somehow consider themselves qualified to dictate to a driver how to do his.

Nah, I like driving too much.

LOL...you're making the smart choice. Everybody in our office are former drivers and every one of them has said, at one time or another, that he wishes he was still back out on the road. Sometimes they say it several times a day.
Somebody described middle management as "sitting under the pointy end of a funnel that everybody who wants to can pour crap into all day long...drivers, customers, shippers, shop guys. vendors, government people...and all the crap drips right down on you". They weren't too far off with that description.
Driving is still one guy with one load...there's a lot of freedom in that.

Exactly. Though I really appreciate a dispatcher who was/is a driver. They understand and seldom have a good excuse for screw-ups.:biggrin_25525:

Update: Well, here it is Sunday and as of yesterday still no letter or word from Gardner as to whether I have a job or not. I'm not a fool so of course I know I'm without a job. Just would have been nice to have been officially told. What a joke.
