Honestly I view this as pretty stupid and not going to take off at all. The 60ft container is actually a waste because you won't be able to double stack it on trains like you can with domestic 53' cans and international sizes as well. so the extra 7' of cargo space you gain is actually severely wasted due to the costs. As far as shipping the 60' containers internationally to China, Japan, South Korea, etc. this has already been tried by APL with a 53 ft container and it failed http://www.joc.com/maritime-news/co...andons-53-foot-ocean-containers_20130315.html JB Hunt even tried a 53ft Ocean Container prototype and it failed as well. Granted the article says the containers are going to be shipped in Ontario lanes and not internally but your still losing the ability to double stack them. You would be better off doing infrastructure projects to make double stacking a reality if it's currently not feasible to do so in places in Canada then build a whole new container size.

Would a 60 foot container work to be double stacked on every other car above a 53? The news article said in Ontario and in Canada. Twin 53s are common west of Winnipeg to Alberta. Sask even allows 3 53s between Saskatoon and Regina at night on a trial basis.

Three 53s? Wow, is there a weight limit to that? Can you imagine a 195,000 lb wiggle-wagon?
-
Wow that's crazy

it's not so much the weight, as the length, 170' combined length, would be amusing.
