I have a 260" wheel base on my Columbia. I park next to 'Hood' trucks and we lay pretty evenly.
Need the extra length for larger tanks, headache rack and still have a catwalk, room for apu and misc things. For me anything under 244 would be too short.
If you want easier cooling get a mid roof sleeper. Dont get a condo like I have. But I've driven a Coronado with large condo.. APU + idling (A/C x 2) cooled the cab nicely while sleeping in the heat of the day.

That's a pretty long Columbia. What model is that? I think a Classic XL is 265"
I'd have to double check, but I think my 72" kw studio is only 235"?
I know it sounds bad, but I'm really just curious. -
Patilan, what are some of the other specs you're looking at? Engine, HP, trans, axle ratio, just curious.

Nothing special that I am aware of. Just a Columbia 120 with a C15.
Has twin stacks coming up the back. Not sure if thats factory or if another owner did that. My headache rack is 1ft behind the sleeper to clear the mufflers and then I have roughly 6ft between headache rack and front of my trailer.

I probably will end up buying used truck from the fleet of the company I used to work for. The trucks are designed to pull flatbeds cheap - exactly what I need. I see many of them listed for sale. They are Cascadias WB 244, Detroit 475 HP with 10 speed Ultrashift, super single drives. The one thing I don't like is the 2.64 rear end ratio, but I do like the fuel economy that it delivers. I also hated the seat, but I see that I can buy better one for just over $1000.

I had a 386 with a 220wb. Pulled a flat and a stepdeck. I was the lightest truck in the fleet with super singles and Cummins ism 410. Ran it weekly between the norcal coast to denver and back. I miss having a truck where the load weight didn't matter. I will go back to a small 48" flat in the future for sure!

Did you haul wind machine housings out of Port Hueneme with that blue pete?

I pull a 48' curtain van with a 216" WB Cascadia & it works great. It keeps me @ 65' overall so I can run the back roads in CA & OR. With a regular conventional you want about a 230" - 235" wheelbase to accomplish the same thing. It's great being able to back in to spots that the large cars have to pass up.
