Hi All,
I graduate from CDL school in a couple weeks and live in Miami, FL. My hope is to find a company that hires CDL grads for OTR flatbed. I may be willing to relocate for the right job. One plan could be to first get a UPS post office box in a prime hiring location, and then use that on my applications, since not many companies that offer what I want hire out of south Florida. I applied with one company that does, but they haven't been responsive since my telephone interview a couple of weeks ago.
For example, the southeastern US seems like a good area to get hired out of. I could get an address in Birmingham, AL for example, fill out applications using that address, explain the situation during the hiring process, then relocate to a residence that would work for the company that hires me.
Does anyone have any suggestions for how to best go about this? Thanks for any feedback. Really looking forward to getting started.
Best address for rookie flatbed prospect

If you're going to do that, pick a state with no personal income taxes such as Texas.
Have you talked with anyone from Cypress Truck Lines; flatbed based in Florida.
One of the best deals I've heard about for a new address is through Escapes RV Club. They will assist in a legal address in any state plus advice on changing your CDL address. They also provide mail forwarding services.
Then there's :
UPS Store

Try :
Simba Seven
Halvor Lines
An address in Chattanooga, TN would be good for flatbed jobs hauling out of Birmingham. Tennessee has no personal income taxes and many flatbed companies have terminals in or near Birmingham, such as Decker Truck Line and Keim TS plus many others. Decker just built a new $2 million dollar terminal in Bessemer, AL.
Houston/Dallas/Ft. Worth is also good flatbed country, especially Houston.Last edited: Dec 4, 2014

Thanks for the feedback.
Even if a got a UPS Store address in Orlando, wouldn't I need two documents proving my physical address to get my CDL changed? That's what the DMV requires. I could get my cell phone bill changed to the new address, and maybe register to vote there to get the other document. But I think they want a utility bill or mortgage statement.
Cypress does hire out of Florida, from Tampa/Orlando on up. Rinaudo hires within 150 miles of JAX. Melton hires the whole state, and told me that there's no advantage for getting hired by moving to another part of the state north of Miami. They are still processing my app. Orlando seems the best as it is within 150 miles of JAX, or an address in JAX. Cypress and Rinaudo have terminals in JAX. I could fly to Miami from JAX for my days off if I stay out for 6 weeks and get 6 days off.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Some states do want rent receipts or utility bills. Some states aren't that picky. Texas cracked down on their requirements. One driver posted you can get around all that if you're a member of Escapes RV Club. Don't know if you actually need an RV or not or just register your pickup or car with them.
If Melton will hire you, that's a good company to get started with. You can move later after gaining 12 months experience and check out a good place to relocate to. I spent a lot of time figuring out the best place for me and family to relocate and ended up in Nevada which is also no personal income tax state.
Melton has top of the line equipment and Tripac APU's which is expecially good for solo drivers that spend downtime in the truck.
