Everyone knows that SV (or south bay area) is very hot for jobs. Average Salary there is 80k and in tech average salary is like 120-150k. Crazy.

Does anyone has experience how is that area for taking loads? Is it good pay? I mean all those companies Google, Apple, linkedin, Microsoft etc. do they pay premium price for loads or not? Any thought?

I was born and raised in Los Gatos,CA which is in the South SF Bay Area. I have many family and friends who make well into the 6 figures, but what people don't realize is with the taxes and cost of living here it's not worth ####. All my family and friends making well into the 6 figures are nothing more than middle class here. Driving a truck around here is a nightmare to put it nicely. The SF Bay Area is the only place in North America with a 5 lane highway (each way) that no trucks are allowed on (CA-85) in the heart of San Jose. I can't wait to leave this dump once and for all.

I can't tell you how the loads pay though. Sorry.

Yes I knew all those things before but I am wondering if pay for dry van delivery or taking loads in south bay is rewarded like those people who work in tech industry. I think they should pay a little above average at least but I am not sure.

Also I am wondering if they are working with brokers or direct with trucking company.

bay area is actually great for live if you are making 400k a year or something :D

The point I'm trying to make is that the companies you mention do not own any factories that actually produce any tangible products in sufficient quantities to require relationships with truckload carriers.

Exactly. Just compare houses from one side of the country to the other. You're looking at a million dollars for something that would be 2-300k or so anywhere else. The people there HAVE to make that much money to survive.

100k in the bay area and your living with multiple people living in East Oakland. Getting any of those high loads your need to find out what carriers haul for them.

They're out of Fremont IIRC. Not exactly the South Bay area and not where most the high paying jobs are.

That's another good point i failed to mention though. Most my friends and family pulling down well into the 6 figures do work that has no tangible results. They are mostly Data analyst, engineers, managers,Project Planning etc...

They will work a 12 hour day and the only difference they've made in the world is a couple more megabytes used on the company issued laptop's HDD and/or company Cloud.
