    I know what they are doing ;-) I am quite involved in that :D

    I just wonder for trucking loads in that area. Even if is not tech industry in bay area everything is more expensive and everyone makes little more then average guy from USA. So I guess loads has to be more expensive as well.

    Dry van rates in the bay area are nothing special -- its not like NYC. In general, rates in California are not worth the restrictive regulations (CARB, low speed limits, length & kingpin laws, etc), high taxes (including ~6cpm fuel tax), mountainous terrain (10+% worse fuel economy compared to similar speeds elsewhere), bad traffic, rough roads, spotty parking, longer deadheads, etc.

    From a purely business perspective, you take in more revenue & have lower operating costs working the midwest -- to the point where it makes more sense for me to park my truck & fly back to CA for hometime.

    Tesla has a hard time with their supply chain, and all they do in Freemont is assemble parts they receive from other locations. Also, a car is composed of a lot of small parts, sourced from a lot of places (certainly the mid-west).
