I drank a Rock Star energy drink once. It made my heart go into overdrive and I felt sick the rest of the day.

I know it's not the same product, but Bill Mack pedals that 5 Hour crap like he really gives a **** about drivers. What an #####.

As if there is a replacement for a healthy diet and enough rest.

Aerobics, interval training is important while mixed with aerobic activity. stress your body by exercise. :40 minutes of continuous activity. 3x per week. I like using a 120lbs sand vest and walk telephone pole length, then run a telephone pole length.

It has been said over and over. I am a team driver and trust me, there is no substitute for sleep. If you don't get enough, NONE of the gigantic list of BS posted here will work. Sleep, sleep sleep. However, if you are rested, you still may get groggy. Eating too much will cause this. West Texas will cause this.

If you are just a bit heavy eyed, loud rock music into your headphones will help a bunch. A cup of coffee may help, but probably not as much as the walk into the truck stop to get it. Do not, repeat, do not buy and eat crap truck stop food, especially if it's wrapped in plastic. It is full of sugar and white flour and it will KNOCK YOU OUT.

Finally, if you do find yourself nodding, STOP THE TRUCK! The only thing that works is 15-30 minutes with your eyes closed...DO IT, the life you save may be your own. It really works. Pull over and close your eyes for a bit.

Another way to stay awake is clean your eyelids a couple times a day.Walmart sells eyelid wipes.Sometimes I get so sleepy no matter how much sleep I got.But when I clean the oil and sweat off them I feel very refreshed. Also clean your face before starting your shift. But when you clean your eyelids don't tug and pull the eye area is the most delicate.Firmly yet gently pat your eyelids and believe me you would be amazed how awake and alert you'll be.
