Looking for some advice from the pros on this one. Been otr solo a month. Got a nice run from TN to CA, I40 all the way across, 2000 miles. Sitting in LA now, next load tomorrow which starts in LA, up to Sac, then to Reno and back across to Omaha, NV. I see the most direct route is I80 across the mountains. I don't know the route they're suggesting till the morning, but the miles listed on the PP suggest I80, not back down and across I40.

Question is, can I even run it without chains (which I don't have) this time of year? From what I understand, even in the summer the rockies can be a challenge for newer drivers, much less now. Like I said, don't know the route yet, will talk to dispatch in the morning, just trying to be as informed as possible when I do. Thanks all.

Check the weather. Cali only checks for chains when there is snow that is imminent. Nevada does the same. Utah and Wyoming both have chain laws but if its not snowing then I wouldn't worry. Just an FYI, traveling west YOU NEED TO CARRY CHAINS. Next time you come out here make sure you have sufficient chains.

That's good advice, but didn't know I was coming out to CA. This all started as a "want this run to Belllemont, AZ"?, which turned into another run from there to LA...

Storm is due in to the Sac area Thursday late afternoon, and the forecast says it should be a good one. So don't waste time getting over Donner (I-80 to Reno). There is no other way to go from Reno to Omaha...they are both on I-80. Your issue with snow will most likely catch you about Salt Lake and over into WY and into NE (BTW...where is Omaha, NV?)

My advice is this...you don't have chains and they have a winter storm watch for Donner pass calling for 1-3ft of snow at 7000ft which Donner is at 7300 ft....looks like your company will have to get you tire chains in cali otherwise if they start checking for chains at Applegate going up the pass out of Sacramento you'll be turned back to Sacramento...I'm getting the weather from weather channel app..
