Question about Oil Field driving experience and what most companies will accept

    Hello this forum has been an awesome place to research and get the real facts about what's happening in the oil fields. Thanks for all of your input.
    I am looking at working in Texas or possibly North Dakota, I am a Washington resident, I have had my class A since 2000 but all of my cdl driving has been straight trucks and I have been driving during all of that time. Last year I took a CDL A 20 hour refresher class. What are my employment prospects in the oil fields with limited tractor trailer experience? Should I go over the road to get trailer driving experience and then sign up for the oil fields? Probably over analyzing this but wanted input from those working out there. I hear different things as I see a lot of companies say 2 years trailer experience.

    You already have plenty experience to get a good job in North Dakota. What are you looking to do? What kind of work? Are you planning to relocate? Any family?

    I was looking to haul water or sand. I don't have my hzmat. Late 30's guy with no family. Yes I was planning on relocating.

    Power Fuels in Williston hauls water. Usually looking for drivers. They supply cheap housing to. Last I knew they were paying 24 per hour plus o/t. Go to the North Dakota Job Service website and search CDL driver jobs. Use the resume maker and start calling some phone numbers. You will see that there is a demand. Also call the Job Service Williston location and tell them you are a driver looking for work. They will point you in the right direction. Also search the Dickinson and Watford City areas. They are booming like Williston. I spent last year there. Winter is coming so a bunch of jobs will also be opening up. Get a job that provides low cost housing as it is expensive there. It gets -30 there so really know what you want. Good luck to you. There is a lot of opportunity there for good workers.

    You should be able to find a job without problems in the oilfield
    for texas dont look just in midland odessa. Check Seminole, big spring, big lake, or even san angelo.
    bigger companies will have the best benefits. Some companie offer housing (i think panhandle and cot in big lake do)

    My story is very similar. Class A with hazmat and tanker but all.Class B experience. What is the latest on the opportunities out there?

    There is a company in "HOBSON TX" (near San Antonio) named "Siboney", they will hire mostly anybody with a good clean CDL Class A and can pass a pee test! They work ya plenty of hours starting at $17 hr. Tough to get them to answer the phone, but if they say fill out the app... you're probably gonna get the job! So So outfit, as the equipment is getting a bit out dated & needing repairs. THEY DO HAVE ON SITE MAN CAMP/TRAILERS! = $AVE MONEY!!!

    Hoppe's Construction in Midland is looking for drivers, last thing I heard. They are always short on drivers, and also have housing available.
