ecm?

    hey guys whats the oldest truck with a ecm ? or when did the ecm come out frist ? need a ecm to run eobr right? thanks

    Technically you don't need an ECM to run an EOBR. I've seen it done by hooking into the speedo cable somehow.

    Pretty sure Detroit series 60 was the first in north America. Maybe 85? A quick Google search should tell ya when they started making the series 60.

    No you don't need an ECM to run an EOBR and on top of that many EOBRs won't work with the old J1708 protocol but the J1939 is needed so that leaves out something like those pre-2001 or so trucks which used J1708.

    I have been pondering this also I wish us old truck owners could get clear answer. We could use the big road log book ap it does everything but I can't plug it into anything on my 1977 352 peterbilt. There must be a way I am worried I don't want a yard ornment in 2017.
