Panhandlers at Truck Stops

I wonder if I gave them a zap with my cattle prod if it would be considered assault ??

 

My son, new on the road, said he learned quickly just to say he doesn't carry cash.

 

thats it..

If I'm in a happy mood (which is rare on the road) I'll reply with "all I have is a debit card on me, sorry"...

or..

"sorry man my ex-wife gets it all"..

 

Wasn't at a truck stop, but I had a guy aggressively ask me for money last night. I do relay loads with a driver from Pennsylvania and we meet in Columbus, Oh where we have permission from a local business to use their parking lot as a meeting point. I always take my break while I'm there because at 1 a.m. the truck stops and rest areas are packed in tight. I've never had a problem before, but now I'm thinking about finding another place for my break.

As I rolled toward the entrance to leave, a guy stepped in front of my truck forcing me to stop. I keep a 3 cell MagLite in the door pouch, so it was in my hand as he approached the truck. He gave me the usual sad story about how he doesn't usually do this, but he's been on the street for a few days, he's awfully hungry and doesn't get paid til tomorrow, and if he could just have a couple of bucks... I gave him my usual response that I don't carry cash, but I could give him a peanut butter sandwich, a banana, and a cold bottle of water if he wanted it. He jumped on the step and grabbed the bottom of the window frame . "F-- you man, I just need a couple of bucks!" Judging from the meth sores on his face, I could guess what the money was for.

By this point I was mad. No one climbs on my truck and yells at me, so I held up the flashlight and told him to clear out or he was getting it between the eyes. He did, then kicked a drive tire before he walked away. Needless to say, when I got home and my wife asked how my night went, I left that part out. She worries enough as it is. I really ought to find a better place for my break, but I don't have any good alternatives.

 

i was waiting in the parking lot for hubby to finish physical therapy a couple weeks ago...a woman hit me up there ...parking lot of a surgical center

 

I was with my uncle once at a Petro and a girl came up to him and asked him for money. He pulls out a stack of hundreds and says "Sure, but you got change for a $100". One of the funniest things I ever saw. She didn't know what to say!!

 

when anyone approached us and asked for money. we would offer to buy them something to eat, or give from the emergency food supplies in our truck...amazing how many DIDNT want that...so they ended up with NOTHING

 

I was at a Pilot with a McDonalds this morning, 👍
there was 1 guy ordering, another counting a bunch of change on the counter, he bummed a dollar from the other guy. ( a stranger)
Then he ordered the Steak Bagel meal with a large orange juice, he was still short and the cashier let it slide.

 

I never understood why bums ask for money then order fast food. I can go to the dollar store and get 3 or 4 meals for what McDonald's charges for that crap they pass off as food

 

i know, plus he ordered the most expensive sandwich.
