1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

OK.., this is going to be a little long maybe. But I figure I might as well get out as much history as I can to give you all a better capability for Feedback.

I am going on 19yrs active duty in the Army. I did 12yrs as an 88M (truck driver) and then switched professions to another job field. I got out in 2002, went Reserves and started driving for Schneider (Cringe).. I drove for about 3 months before I couldn't take their lies and crap and got a local Flatbed Job hauling building supplies (some of the most awkward built loads I have ever seen to have to tie down) running most of Western WA. Well 1 yr to the day, I got reactivated to serve for the War effort. After 5 yrs of doing that 6 months at a time I figured I would stick it out and retire for the benefit of my family. When transferring back to Active Duty Army.., I had to change job professions (no big deal, still serving my country) to make it happen without loosing rank. Well I am right at 3 yrs out and will be retiring in SE GA and was wondering the best way to get my foot back in the door of a decent company that does Local hauls. The boss lady already said NO OTR for me..(she married a HUSBAND.., not a NAME) which I can understand. I have been gone from Home more than being there in the last 10 yrs. I am up for anything that can keep me local to include hauling chips, lumber, heavy equipment, etc.. I have experience in Heavy Haul including hauling the M1A1/A2 main battle tank (up to ~69-70 Tons, with a gross weight of ~94-95 Tons) and various versions of other Large tracked vehicles that Army uses (Most of this was over 3 yrs in CO on the edge of the Rockies). I would be happy with anything that could have me home at night and weekends (which is asking a LOT., I know) with a take home of about 2k+ a month. I have rode in trucks with my Dad ever since I was too small to see out the windshield. He did Construction for most his days and needless to say.., I was helping run backhoe's, loaders and various other equipment before my toes could even touch the pedals hardly. Once again.., I will be retiring in about 3 years and would like to find a Job with a company that treats it's drivers like a human and not a number. I have busted my butt, been shot at, mortard, rocketed and numbers of other things in life for a while now. I can handle the pressure.., just treat me right and you'll get the best that can be given.

Thank you for your time in reading such a long post. if you have any other questions of me you can email me at bd_murdock@yahoo.com. I do not have a phone as I am once again deployed, and in Qatar. I WILL get back to you in a timely manner. Once again.., Thank You!

Most places require 1 year OTR within the last 3 years, you may have a hard time finding a local driving job unless you go back into hauling building materials or something like that.

Well I am more than Happy to go back to doing that with no problem.., but I need to get something out there. Like I said, I'm 3 years out still and do not like waiting till the last minute. I have been trained to be prompt, or ahead of schedule with no mistakes for a long time now (it's been breed into me in a way). Online listings for job openings.., not showing much for any local type gigs unless you have the recent "Experience".I can understand companies wanting that due to insurance rates and ease of mind when hiring on a new employee. Sometimes you just have to roll the dice and put your faith in someone to get the job done. I'm only asking for a little consideration is all, I just would like to make sure that I can provide for my family once I retire by doing something that I miss and love (Driving).

    Thank You,
    Brad

Check with SEFL if there is one on your area...they do a lot of training for local stuff on their own. But you will probably be doing a bit of dock work too. Just a suggestion. SEFL is Southeastern Freight Lines in case you didn't know.

I looked into them and it seems to be a good option. I am still looking at another local family owned company in that area named Williams Brothers Trucking. Pay is a little less but I am still searching. Anyone know of any other companies in SE GA that might be able to do local. Craigslist is popping up a lot of ATL and Savanna jobs.., been in both areas and don't want to live too close to that. Any tips or advice is ALWAYS welcome. Thanks
