Hi im antonio Im new to the forum and Im buying a truck in march or may been looking at 08-11 dodge 3500 6spd.
Anyways I got my cdl last month been driving flatbed (tow truck)for about 2yrs but im trying to start my own gig hauling cars. Ive seen all sorts of guys in cali doing it most i see with only CA#s when i doit i want to go interstate.
the question i have is for my ifta permit do i get one for every state im willing travel to or just Ca?

im also looking to get a new kaufman 3-4 car to have zero issues im iffy about used equipment i dont mind financing it either but while trailer is being built could i still obtain my required permits and authority? Or does trailer have to be present? Reason why i ask is id like to bring a load back on my brand new trailer back from nebraska to cali to not just come back empty or do i pay ($1500) to have it delivered?

dont get me wrong people id buy a used trailer but only from a former owner operator that is knowlegable about his equipment and give me part#s for specific parts that i should address when i need to service it not trying to come off as a picky s.o.b. But i know equipment being in tiptop shape is key especially if your trying to make a name for yourself (clears throat) i dont wanna be that guy that has to call the customer and postpone due to faulty equipment

insurance wise my cost is 12k a year :( but im going to pay half a year to have a good 6months to recoop $$$$

fellow hauler buddies shed some light over here

You should be able to get everything in order to be able to use your trailer to haul a load back, it's been awhile since I got my authority and my trailer was where I lived when I first started, I do know that all subsequent trailers were loaded from other States by me when I picked them up.... not sure if it was possible because I already had everything set up or if it is just how it can be done anytime?? I heard it has something to do with they don't expect you to have to run empty as it's a undue burden???

Others will probably have more info on that

Two things though you might want to research are your truck and trailer choices

I heard that the 6 speed manual Dodges loose the 6th gear like clockwork

The other is that the Kaufman trailers are cheap and have been told that if you buy one you should know how to weld as they are not really built for over the road

Both of these are just things I have heard so maybe ask others more about them and do some digging on the internet

You should be able to weld, rewire the entire trailer( for lights and brakes), and repack bearings.

Oh yeah, and chase the occasional wheel down the road. Those single wheel tri-axle trailers are stupid.

Ugh i really liked the dodge 6spd :(

Yes i heard the same about kaufman which is sad because i thought they were legit #### for $13-15000 i thought that was a deal compared to sun country $22000 and bigtex $18000

Do you mean running real Class 8 equipment or hobbyist Dually? The real deal, check around the UP yard in Mira Loma.
