Do you really care if the Subway sandwich artist is wearing gloves or not?

I used to work at fast food places as a kid and always was crazy about washing my hands probably 3-4 times an hour if I had to guess. I still to this day wash them like crazy and will be the pain in the butt if I see some shady person touching themselves while handling my food to say something usually. I even call out truck drivers coming from bathroom who didn't wash their hands and touch stuff, it's gotten me into some interesting situations.

Wait a minute. Are you saying that hot air goes up and cold air stays down? What kind of junk science are you trying to sell us here Sparky. That would imply that when a toppings lid was raised up that the cold air would stay in. I didn't just fall off the turnip truck. What kind of crap are you going to sell us next? Water is heavier then fuel? Helium is lighter then air?

Why don't you get in your truck and keep driving in one direction until you fall off the edge of the earth cause this trucker isn't buying your dribble.

Yeah and the 1-5 am restart provision makes the roads safer.

On paper and in real life are 2 separate things. If you think they're constantly monitoring the Temps in that box then you've obviously never worked fast food.

How about a science project. Go turn your refrigerator on its back or use a chest freezer if you have one. Now open the door and have your science teacher come examine the Temps for you.

I was in line once where it was taking a while to get the sandwiches made due to the staff being short handed. Turns out they weren't really short handed as a few minutes later a girl comes back and after being asked where she had been so for so long exclaimed "I had to go to the bathroom!"

If I would have stayed in line I woulda have cared if she wore gloves.

I don't know how old you are, but I'm guessing you are too young to remember how the frozen food cases used to be in grocery stores. They were big "tub" type freezers with open tops. Similar to a huge chest type freezer without a lid. There was a mark on the backs and fronts of the inside walls, to tell you how high the food could be safely stored. As I said, they had no lids, but at night, when the store was going to be closed for 12 hours, we would lay a cover, similar to a tarp, over the food in those cases. They worked just fine.

Of course they were replaced with the more modern cases you see today. And these do work better, as well as being a more pleasing display and easier for customers to work with. But there was nothing wrong with the design or the use of those old freezer cases. Of course the refrigerant back then was ammonia. Pretty easy to tell if you had a refrigerant leak. . .:biggrin_2554:

I grew up working in an old "mom and pop" type so called "supermarket." By today's standards, it would be considered "a quaint dinosaur." We actually got our beef in swinging, our butchers were exactly that, butchers. Sure we had some "meat cutters and wrappers," but there job was entirely different than that of butcher.
We had the best bakery in town in that store, and the store owner and baker also did catering for weddings, parties, etc.

I believe I started out there at something like .45 per hour. We were open from 8 AM to 8 PM, Monday through Saturday, closed on Sunday. If a good customer needed something when we were closed, they could, (and often did,) call the owner at home, and he would come down and get them what they wanted. They could pay for it next time they came in.
We had in store charge accounts, and we did home delivery. Had an old '50's panel job station wagon that was used for deliveries and the catering.
We did our yearly inventory on New Years Day, and nobody got paid for doing it! But the owner would cater a very nice dinner for us, right in the store.
Clerks worked two and three way splits every day. We always got Sundays off, and once in a while you could wrangle another day off, as long as it wasn't Saturday. There was no such thing as "overtime."
I worked every day during the summer, whatever shifts I was told to work. During the school year, I worked after school and on Saturdays.

Sorry for the thread hijack here. I just got carried away, thinking about the "NOT VERY Good Old Days."

I'm more creeped out by the restroom cleaning staff that cleans and scrubs every nook and cranny with their gloves on, and then uses that same gloved hand to open the door on the way out.

That is why YOU don't grab that door handle with your bare hands. Use a paper towel, and if you can't "make a basket" to their trash can from the open door way, then THEY can pick it up. Maybe if they have to do this often enough, they will decide to place a trash can beside the door. Or not. . .

Yes, but t only holds the temp for 4 hours, without the lids closed... and how often do you see them cover the food?

You would be surprised at what temp that food is at... supposed to be below 40, and I will gurantee you it is not.
