Can my company take money out of my check for a tow bill?

My company won't pay me breakdown pay, if I'm at home. It's never happened but that's the policy here. But then I rarely even put in for it if I'm down a day or two at a terminal, mmmmm/

I think you should pay the tow bill for the truck, Come on, you're parking there for months for your hometime, you could have ordered a truckload of gravel, or found a better place to park. 400 bucks is cheap for that. Man up

 

Bullshot. It's not her (I'm assuming by your avatar you're female OP?) #### truck....The owner is responsible for all bills to/for said vehicle, unless OP signed an agreement stating they would be responsible for such when they were hired. Now, the owner has no obligation to keep employing the OP, but it is totally ILLEGAL for them to withhold any pay you have earned.

Call your local/state labor board. Immediately.

 

Ouch, yeah, they could have broke it down to like 50 bucks a week. Unless you're a flight risk

 

well , look at it from their possible perspective, you picked the place to park. you picked that spot , they didn't. it was of no fault of theirs the truck got stuck.

it takes about an hour tops to change an alternator, you were down a week?

then the radiator is out and you were down a week?

and normally no one pays breakdown pay when youa re at home, and many simply don't pay it, but not if you are home.


I would guess 1) you haven't been driving long

2) you are working for a small outfit

3) you aren't making very much money


here is my advice, don't quit that job til you have another job in hand and ready to start. then start putting back some money in a rainy day account just for situations like this.

also take a honest long look at how you handle things like this, and why they happen. example before I sat a week .

but in another way to look at it, when I had hired drivers I assumed they would screw things up and I allowed for it, and kept what I called a "stupid schizz fund".

the fact is a good many hired drivers simply aren't careful because they think " it isn't my crap, why worry", so I allowed for it.

it was extremely bad timing to tell you were leaving then get the truck stuck.


if they took 400 and you were left with 100, you really aint got much going on with them folks to begin with, why are you working for em to begin with, any problems you haven't posted??

 

Yup. Your fault. You've been parking there. Therefore you're responsible

 

In most States, a company absolutely cannot dock your pay for something like that.
