My S60 14L just started blowing oil out the dip stick tube tonight. It's -26°F in Wyoming tonight. Could the crankcase vent tube being plugged cause this? There is no blow by coming out of it. I tapped the end of it with a fw puller and it sounded like a little pressure was released, but not enough. Is it safe to idle overnight because I have nowhere to go to.

That's absolutely possible. I'm honestly not sure what idling all night with the vent tube plugged or frozen over might do to the engine though. Sorry, I know that's not much help. You might consider taking off the oil filler cap and stretching a sock over it or something so the engine doesn't build up too much crankcase pressure, and leave the cap off.

Thanks, just did that per your idea. When I took off the fill cap, there was a lot of pressure. I'm hoping it's just the blow-by tube.

At those kind of temperatures, it's not at all unusual for the blowby tube to freeze over, especially if it's long and hangs in the breeze as you roll down the road.

Just thought of one more thing...cutting the tube off closer to the block, since the ice or debris plug is likely to be towards the open end. Not much point in crawling around under there tonight, but it's definitely something to look at in the morning. Even if it doesn't work, all you lost is about 20 seconds with a knife.

I'll look into that, thanks. I need to try to get some sleep (like that's possible now).

+2 with the crankcase breather tube being frozen.

+3 on breather tube frozen. the fix is a 45 degree slash cut on back side.
