So it makes sense that I should put off talking to a recruiter for a few months, but how likely is it that they wouldn't bring me on?
I realize things change, but it seems like everyone is willing to hire just about anyone that can pass a drug test, and has a clean background check.
    Am I wrong about that?

If you read this post in the other prime thread you'll see why he can only go in as a lease operator http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/showthread.php?p=4388525

Short answer is he is living in a no hire area and if he really wants to work at prime lease is the only option for him.

Wait until you are closer to your date of wanting to join. Eight months is to far out.

As for will you be hired, prime is not one of those Mega carriers that is just looking for a warm body to fill a seat. You can go to crst or CR England for that. Prime wants good quality drivers who can be on time to appointments, follow directions, communicate, and who care about safety. Just because your mvr is clean and you can pass a drug screen doesn't guarantee you'll be hired.

Why do you have to wait 8 months before you can start?

In 8 months my 2nd daughter will be off to college, my divorce will be final, and the house will be sold (or at least the ex wife will be over seeing it's sale). I'll be free to pursue OTR trucking, something that I've wanted to do for many years.

Be prepared to prove you were self employed. Prime is strict and will want proof. Ask what they want; tax records, etc?

You can call now, but get really serious when about 2 months away from making a move.

Midwest-coast Transport has a terminal in Boise and also has their own CDL school.
The terminal used to be WSE/Willis Shaw Express.
At least with Midwest-coast you can get hometime.

Thank you for the info. He might prefer to lease, but it helps to have a little road experience I think first, perhaps the training period would be enough.

Yes prime has a longer then most training period, but to learn everything you need to know to lease and be successful I think would take more then just that training period. He's going to have to make that decision on his own and it could be done but it will take serious amount of work, perpetration, and focus just to stay afloat from what I understand starting out in that position.

I wish him luck in whatever choice he makes.
