No, and for a few reasons.

There are only a few people in this world that I would trust enough to let ride with me.

Im a government employee. I drive a government vehicle. That's a can of worms I don't care to open.

The only one time I wish we could have given someone a ride was after bad weather, I don't remember where we were now, it was back in 2008, and this group of college kids were hitchhiking home. It was just as well though because the truck ended up with an axle that broke right before picking up a Clorox load, ended up towed to the dealer for repairs. Just think if it had happened going down the road and the truck had wrecked with 3 or 4 stray kids in it.

It is too dangerous to pickup hitchhikers now.

Funny you post this. A couple in Anderson county sc picked up a hitch hiker yesterday and was shot and killed by him. So I say he'll no I wouldn't pick anyone up for no reason. Sorry but people nowadays are ###### up and you can't trust any one any more. I do realize there are more good folks than bad folks but you just don't know who your dealing with anymore. Most folks that are hitch hiking today are usually running away from something or have been kicked out of something. No longer are the days of " hey let's hitchhike across the country for an adventure".

I would pick up a beautiful woman hitchhiker if she wouldn't steal my kidney while I was sleeping. or at least put me in the ice bath...

I refuse to do it, my wife has given rides and when she told me I told her to never do it again. I have pulled over and helped people broken down before but its not often, pulled over and helped jump a pickup for an old couple who sat on the side of the road for several hours needing help but no cell phone to call anyone and nobody else stopped for them so I felt good about that one. Another time a car was broken down and it was a young lady with an infant which I helped call and get her help but I wouldnt of let them ride in my vehicle. Only once I pulled over in my truck and it was when I was bobtailed last year the day before thanksgiving when I saw an SUV on the shoulder with the hood up, I wasnt able to help them but after about 15min one of those government tow trucks showed up to tow them somewhere close by.

You just cant trust people as hitchhikers though

Used to pick up hitch-hikers a lot in my personal vehicle before I started trucking. Only picked up ONE hitch-hiker in a big truck in the mid 90's, and that was on my way home (only took him about 15 miles). I used to hitch-hike all the time.

Since then, I got somewhat of an attitude. Once cell phones and help wanted signs started popping up everywhere, I got to thinking "why don't everyone get a job and buy a bus ticket". ESPECIALLY the free-loaders that stand at the truck stops asking for rides.

Greyhound is ALWAYS offering a deal like $98.00 one way 'anywhere'---get a job, wait for that first check, buy a ticket, and stop begging you lazy, lazy, lazy mook. Call me heartless...I just don't care what your story is....get a job.

Many years ago, a cute girl was standing on an onramp. Stopped to pick her up. Turned out that she and her boyfriend were arguing so he pulled over and told her to get out. As she was getting in my truck, he pulled up and started begging her to get back in. She told him to f off and off we went. Ended up spending a day in the sleeper helping her get over him. Good times
