That's like me, sometime it's rare, but now and then they throw me in an 18 bay not that often usually my load isn't heavy enough for that, but that makes things interesting. One Monday they threw me in an 18 and one of the senior drivers said to me "Is that trailer even going to fit into all of your stops?"

I said "No, I'll be running in a few off the street."

I would like to know if the BOL said CASH would you even pull it off the truck before cash was in hand?
If they did not pay you would then need to reload it so why touch it 2 times?
Or worst you "went to the office" to get cash and their help took your load and made it go by by!

The freight stays on the truck and the door remains closed, until contact is made with the office. Once you've established contact, you can kind of judge from there. A lot of folks legitimately want to look at the freight before paying the bill. After all, if it is smashed to pieces, they won't want it.

The fact that the bill is COD and marked CASH doesn't necessarily indicate that the consignee is a crook. But it is kind of a good indication that you wouldn't want to drop a ten dollar bill on his floor and turn your back on it.

I think the issue here is perhaps that you didn't call dispatch when told to take cash only and took a check instead.

I used to work for a guy who would say: "There are three times I want you to call - when you think you should, when you don't think you should, and every other time."

If you remove the abstract from his theory, it isn't bad advice. It does offer CYA in times like this.

That's a good point we have a couple screwy cash only accounts that don't make any sense one place is cash only, but I always charge them and the sales rep picks the check up from there other restaurant. Another driver from another distributor was talking that same account and he said "What I don't get is that place is selling $100.00+ steak dinners and there bouncing checks?" It doesn't make a lick of sense.

Those handhelds need to be updated more often.. I get instructions on mine that really have nothing to do with either the current situation, or even the current management.. If they'd keep the instructions and notes current this wouldn't happen..

A lot of times, what you have there, is a business man who knows absolutely NOTHING about the bookkeeping/accounting end of the business. I've run into this a few times. The guy is basically honest, and very good with what the business is all about. But when it comes to keeping track of the money, is dumb as a board. Folks like this drive their bookkeepers nuts!
