One further gotcha - if you decline the load you also decline the layover pay.
I went through this with my last home time request.
I was delivering to Denver several days early (nearly a week) for my home time request, and the only pplans sent were for several days out - picking up at the terminal and delivering in Denver. It was always sent with the message "This load will get you home by your requested date" ?
It seems they were determined to keep me there so I would take my home time under dispatch, with a LOT of time off.
Not a lot I could do about it, and I lost any bonus for running the holidays. (That won't happen next year!)
But, these things happen from time to time.
If I were to lose sleep over it I would start to go crazy, so I just take it in stride.
I think the planners, especially in the slow 'late holiday' season, have more headaches than any of us.DocWatson Thanks this. -

As you are saying, if there is any part of your job that is unfavorable, however you continue to work there than you are saying it's ok. So I guess every part of your current job is perfect for you 100% of the time otherwise you would leave it.
Not very realistic whether its trucking or any other career field. If I quit my job or job jumped every time something wasn't to my liking I would have had a 1,000 jobs by now if not more.
Every job has pros and cons. Each individual has to decide what pros there are for them and what cons they can live with.Moosetek13 Thanks this. -
The nice thing about our country is we get to whine and snivel about any little thing we want. Money? My millions are okay, but yours aren't. Schedule? I work 32 hours and get paid for 40. You work 70 and get paid for...how many, exactly?
So what? We do what we want because of personal reasons. And we whine and snivel when we think the grass could be greener, if only everyone else would... -
I don't like some aspects of the company I'm with, but the positive outweighs the negative in many ways.
That doesn't mean I am OK with the negative.
And like you mentioned - if you leave every job because you disagree with any little thing, you will be job hopping your entire life.JOHNQPUBLIC Thanks this. -

On dedicated accounts if you nag enough you get detention as soon as you bump the dock. I did it all the time and it was an extra 90 $ a week in waiting time
