Just got my CDL, I live in central Texas and I've been looking lately at Schneider, US XPRESS ( which I've heard some bad stuff about), TMC or Swift.
Anyone here in Texas that has experience and useful info? I know to make $$$ I got to be away, I just left the Army after 15 yrs so I can deal with that.
Just lookin for someone that's been around the block to dispell rumors for me and give it to me straight. I know USX pays well for vets but like I said I've
seen mixed reviews.
Thanks!![]()

Just wanted to say cool dogs!

Thanks, yeah I'm also lookin fer a company w/pet policy
-
Keep looking; there's many good companies that hire new CDL graduates in Central Texas with pet policy.
Here's a few:
CTL Transportation
Navajo Express
H.O. Wolding
National Carriers
Melton Truck Lines
Pride Transport
FFE
WEL
Southern Refrigerated Transport
Magnum Ltd.
Con-way Freight
Most companies only allow 1 pet and must be under a certain weight.
There's plenty more real good companies if you can do without the pet policy; $60K+ annual pay jobs.truckermj Thanks this. -
Thanks China, looks like I got me some homework tomorrow!

My advice pick one close to home. It really doesn't make sense to go with a company that 1000's of miles from home. Then go with regional or dedicated if they have an account. Reason regional because it will keep you in a smaller area that you can become familiar with really fast which will boost your confidence sooner. Dedicated because most likely you will have to back up more giving you more chances to become better at it faster.

I also just got my CDL from CDL school. We had a TMC recruiter vist my class who impressed me. He was a former TMC driver and a straight shooter. Two of my classmates, one of whom left the Marines 2 years ago, went with them. I've talked with one of their drivers at a truck stop and two recruiters from other companies mentioned them as well. All of them had good things to say, none said anything bad. I'm interested in tankers, and have been accepted by Schneider's program. Their tanker school is supposed to be one of the best in the country. Don't know much about USX or Swift (other than it's a huge company).

BWC where did you go to school?
-
sounds like we might have went to the same class, I went through ACT and we also had two guys go to TMC, I think one was a Marine

Thanks for the advice TNMT, I think I'm gonna look into TMC. I've heard almost nothing but good things about them, plus home every weekend. I think it's a good way to start.
