I'm set up for orientation with a well known, unliked company... I've read several posts online about how people will show up on the orientation, and on the second day be sent home for ######## reasons like "gaps in employment history.
Several of the posters who claimed to have been randomly sent home, I looked up post history on, and most of them talked about having to get a sleep study done.
My question is, since a company can't turn you away for being fat (EOE), couldn't they just make up stupid reason such as employment gaps? I know for sure the company i'm hiring on for, called my past employer, and confirmed dates, because he called me and told me they did.
I also got a "conditional offer of employment" pending I pass all DOT required regulations.
I'm not overweight, nor did I need a sleep study, but was just wondering if this was the possible issue for people being sent home randomly.
Getting sent home from orientation because you're a fatty?

Business is what it is... There are loop holes for any employer to not hire someone. Pick an excuse and they can probably use it. I've saw a perspective sent home due to paperwork not being done, and couldn't finish it at orientation without info at home. (I don't know if they ever came back, but day 2, that person left and didn't come back)

Gaps in employment history isn't a "random" reason to be sent home....most companies basically just want to know you weren't in jail during the gap which is why you need to provide some sort of verification of what you were doing during that time period.
-
Can they make up a reason? Sure. But it has to be something they can prove a valid reason for. (Jail time between jobs, may mean you're unreliable and can't contril yourself.)
What they can, and SNI did, do is test your abilities to do the everyday things on the job. Hopping up into the trailer, carrying weight, dead-lifting weight. So they can send you home if you're incapable of doing the basic everyday duties OR if they have reason to believe you aren't going to bs able to do them without hurting yourself.
I don't know about trucking, but there are some careers where you can't be overweight and work for them. Flight attendants for example. (...if you have to ask.) -
There are overweight ppl that do get sent home but that would be with companies that do have sleep abnea done and they don't wanna pay for the machine if they fail the test. But otherwise theres many overweight drivers that get hired if that companies doesn't have abnea testing. You can get sent home if you fail your physical and drug testing.yes you could get sent packen if you can't provide the dates and gaps of employment.I have a few copies of all the places ive worked,no way I could remember it otherwise.

That's what one company wanted from me, I had a period of unemployment(where I collected unemployment, so they can verify) and they wanted like 4 references to prove I was unemployed, etc I said no thanks, that's what background checks are for and I am not jumping through 10,000 hoops for you and have too many other offers on the table including local gigs. Then he sounded all down and depressed when I basically told them to go screw LOL
Go find a company that isn't interrogating you like the feds, there's tons out there. There's about 20 companies I can work for right out of school without a big hassle. -

Same here, they wanted references and also wanted them to write a short letter along with signing and dating it.Its like if I have to go thru all that and then some for a job no thanks.
UKJ Thanks this. -
UKJ, "semi" retired, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this.

You would think so wouldn't you. Many applicants can't remember or forget this and that on their application.no reason why the recruiter or the person leading the orientation cant give them those places they worked.
UKJ Thanks this.
