Any companies that have you drive automatic trucks in the Houston area? If so how much do they pay and what is growth potential like? Is it significantly lower because it's an automatic truck? I have me CDL permit , just really struggling with the a manual! I thought I wanted to go over the road , but now I'm not so sure

go into the forum here in the New Driver section. The question has been asked several times. Do a search for automatics. Several lists you will find. Manual takes time to master. I finally realized that after 4 years I was not going to be one of the good shifters. Purchased an auto and it really made my life easier and driving more enjoyable. Even with an auto you need use your knowledge of shifting at times especially if you have the ability to manually shift the auto.

I wouldn't get discouraged on the shifting, it takes time to master, companies that hire noobie drivers are aware of this, most will also have you out with a OTR trainer, only way to get better with shifting is? PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE, good luck

A lot of people struggle with shifting. You do not want to look at the shifter it is all about learning to tap you feet to the sound of the mowtown beat while sitting in the seat of your pete.

Yeah but my current training program with Stevens transport is in its 2nd week and they expect us to be able to test flat the DPS by next wed and we only started driving yesterday , they'll drop me if I'm not ready by then or at the very best , roll me over to the next class of 2nd week students the following week which is usually unlikely ,my jerkoff of trainer said "if Yall can't get this in a week then Stevens don't want you! We only want the best!!"
So my thing is , I already have my permit so now I'm just looking for jobs in the Houston area that run automatic trucks , maybe I'll give it another go in the future but I need a job asap -
Is their a dropoff in pay for automatic drivers starting local as opposed to manual drivers driving local? I heard this , is it true and if so is it a significant drop off?

Learn how to shift, don't be a driver dropout. Because when you want to go to a better local or regional job, I bet they will have 10 speeds.
You only have to learn it once, you will never forget. The Challenger Thanks this.
