This is the reality of wages in trucking. Wages are rising slightly so this will change.

The median annual wage for heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers was $38,200 in May 2012. The median wage is the wage at which half the workers in an occupation earned more than the amount and half earned less. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $25,110, and the top 10 percent earned more than $58,910.

I talked to them already and during training(not classroom time or obtaining CDL, but OTR with a trainer) you're guaranteed those minimums until you go solo and start get paid CPM. Call them yourself.

Believe me I called about every well known company you can think of to see what they're offering.

Check out Diesel Driving Academy, one of the top rated CDL schools in the country, they also have job placement.. there not a fly by night driving school, there program is 5 months long BUT you will have the exp (obout 500 hrs, most schools will give you about 75 hrs of driving time) and confidence of driving a truck. I graduated from DDA in 2009 and when I applied for a local driving position they took the school as 3 months exp.

Not sure. It's up to you in that one. Flatbed would be the hardest and tanker the easiest to me.

Something else to consider is the Unemployment Office should have money for the Workforce Investment Act or WIA as it is commonly abbreviated. WIA [Workforce Investment Act] is a federal program that is administrated by the individual states. This program is for people who are either unemployed or under-employed. It is a grant that goes directly to the school. You do not get your hands on the money. However, the money is a grant not a loan; thererfore, you do not repay the money. You do ,however, need to attend a school that is approved by the state.
    .
.This is something for you to consider if you are looking into financing your training. When the government is going to give you a grant of 3 to 4 thousand dollars this lowers your finance bill considerably. As you can expect, the money runs out fairly quickly. If you want WIA you need to apply quickly.

Tanker is best for the future. After your obligation to Prime is complete, then you can move to a hazmat/tanker company and a huge pay jump immediately thereafter; $65-$80K pay range because you will be an experienced tanker driver.
