Hey everyone, I'm going to be going OTR starting in July and would like some feedback on the Co-Pilot Truck 11 GPS system. I have been told that since you can designate height, weight and so on it could save me mucho headaches en-route to my next stop. Any feedback would be very helpful. Bear in mind I have a laptop and the software/receiver isn't a huge investment but I just hate to buy something I don't really need as I'm just getting started and want to kep expenses down. I have a standard GPS unit but was told it's useless due to low clearances, etc. Any thoughts:biggrin_2554:?

Ya just ask a mod to move this post down there instead of double posting..

Copilot was one of the best things I ever have purchased.. I absolutely love the program and has beyond payed for itself. Never routes me where low bridges may be, one thing you still must pay attention to is local no truck routes going threw Towns.. just click the Detour button on copilot (or follow the truck route signs lol) and it will give you another route.

I have so much appreciation for the program...
Well worth it and would suggest it to anyone..

Thanks Truckerjoe! I was pretty much sold from what I'ver read but wanted to hear first hand from someone that has used it successfully. I'm new to the industry and feel a bit overwhelmed by all the preparations that need to be made before I leave for OTR. GPS, inverter, fridge, laptop mount, oy vay! Well, I'm in with a good company and that's a good start. All else will come over time I suppose. Thanks again for the advice.

Well you still want the skills to be able to preroute yourself.. VERY important.... Copilot in my opinion should be used as a tool and should be used along with your trip planning. It has a 90% or more success rate going from dock to dock.. It is not 100% and comparing customer directions ext.. is important.

Just remember you still need pre trip planning skills and don't rely 100% on Copliot....

I used the Co-Pilot 9 for over a year, it was crap. I constantly called and emailed tech service because nothing worked like it was supposed to. I mean when I was on truck routes it kept telling me to turn around and it also used to try to route me through residential areas all the time, even though it was "supposed" to be trucking specific software. In other words, it was a weak and pathetic joke. Wish I could have my money back!

When Co-Pilot 11 came out, they contacted me because I bugged them so much and offered to give me the new version for free. All I had to pay was the shipping and handling. I told them to stick it up where the sun doesn't shine, and I'm glad I did, because several of my friends also using Co-Pilot 9 also paid the shipping and handling for the free Co-Pilot 11, only to find out that it kept crashing and they couldn't use it. Apparently, it is even worse than Co-Pilot 9. Hence, what ever you do, stay away from Alk technologies, as they are selling junk.

Anyway, I switched to Microsoft Streets & Trips and I wish I would have done it a long time ago.

For instance, to add a truck stop to your route now all I do is just right click it and click add as stop on the quick menu. I used to have to go through about 12 steps to do the same thing with that Co-Pilot junk! I've learned the hard way, just because something cost far more money doesn't necessarily mean it's better. I should have been using Microsoft Streets & Trips all along!
